Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Sgt. Bilko: The Phil Silvers Show - 50th Anniversary Edition for 25th September 2006 priced at £29.99. Sergeant Ernie Bilko is the ultimate con man. He runs the motor pool at a small Kansas U.S. Army Camp. Colonel Hall, nominally in charge of the base tries to keep Bilko's plans in check. Bilko runs every money-making scheme that he thinks he can pull off. Midnight cruises on Landing Craft, Tank Rides, Poker games, and an interesting deal with local service stations for spare parts for jeep tires.

Paramount are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the classic show about Army Sergeant, Ernie Bilko with this 3-disc set that includes 18 episodes and a host of bonus features and commentaries. The episodes have also been remastered for optimal picture quality.

Hmph, took them a while to announce it! The R1 50th Anniversary edition has been out for a few months now. Apparently the show has endured in popularity in the UK even more than the US, so I suppose it is unsurprising. The R1 edition doesn't have subtitles, and I'd imagine this release will, so that's a bit annoying. But still, the R1 version can be picked up for £17.99 at PlayUSA, which once again makes a mockery of the £29.99 price tag for the UK (on top of the delay in releasing it). It's a great set, but quite expensive for only 18 episodes. It was great to see the show again, though, and hopefully purchasing it will encourage them to put out full season sets!

This is a show I'd never seen before, but I picked up the (region 1) set on the recommendation of friends. Every single episode is full of laugh-out-loud moments. A delightful surprise.
