Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of two Christmas Classic Special Editions for 21st November 2006. Priced at $19.98 SRP each are the 1947 version of Miracle on 34th Street and the work of five director's can be seen in O. Henry's Full House.

This should be great! Nice to see both Mono AND 5.1, both B&W AND Colour.

*shiver* why do they have to tamper with classic B&W movies by colorizing them? and generally, when the original soundtrack was mono, there's no real point to 5.1 (especially in a mostly dialogue movie?). what next, are they going to cut off the top and bottom so we can finally see it in "widescreen"?

I agree, why bother? But some people don't care if it disrupts the original intent. At least it's not ONLY colour, ONLY 5.1. Regardless, I will be watching it in Mono and B&W. :D

And yes, that IS coming. I fear tilt and scan will be the norm soon. They're already doing it on some HD channels here with old TV shows. (Although, honestly, they're doing a VERY good job of framing it to make it look more natural. But still...)

The colourised Miracle has been around for donkey's years and it keeps getting revived whereas many older colourisations have disapeared.

The cropping of academy ratio material to widescreen is here -the WB DVD set of Kung Fu suffers from it
