Sweet deal :) I love these films. Although even though the next 8 or 9 (;)) are rubbish, still would have liked them in the set also

Excellent news. I love the first film, remember being scared by the second when I was like 11 or 12 (I haven't seen it since but if I remember correctly there was some disturbing stuff). Part three isn't bad. The less said about 4 and 5 the better. Definetly going to buy this, the bonus disc nicely tops it all off.

Are these films actually any good?

How do they compare to say the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series? Which I seem to remember enjoying.

The first 2 films are classic British horrors. No funny wisecracks or stupid teens. Just full on serious stuff with bad guys you do NOT want to mess with.

3rd movie isn't bad all things considered, but the least said about the rest the better.

This box set is definately on my list :)

"Fully uncut" does that mean the original R-rating (which for the first and second film was cut in the UK) or are we getting the "original unrated versions" (film 2 allready available unrated in the US)?

Since the first one was only released as an trimmed R-rating in the US and cut in the UK it would be very nice to see it unrated.

The unrated version of the third one was released as an uncut 18 in the UK so I guess there won't be any problems this time around either. :)

I've been on the Anchor Bay UK forums this morning and direct from the guys at Anchor Bay is that all three films have been submitted to the BBFC and will pass uncut!

In addition there is some speculation over the packaging. A few choice words suggest perhaps a puzzle box style case. Fingers crossed but I think Anchor Bay are already onto a winner here.

The extras disk is quite interesting, too.

The Forbidden is an unusual film, made totally in negative, that involves a bloke having all his skin peeled off by topless ladies for ages. I seem to remember that it also features a rather priapic naked Clive Barker dancing about as a demon, too.

Hellraiser is one of the best horror films ever IMO. The first 2 sequels aren`t bad either, certainly better than most horror film franchise sequels. I have the first 2 in a limited tin box that AB released a few years back, looks like I`ll have to flog that off on ebay! Am I right in thinking this is the first DVD release of Hellraiser 3 that has been widescreen?

Hellraiser is absolutely superb. Genuine adult horror that is very intense. Hellraiser II pushes the barrier even further. III was good, with some interesting flashbacks to the origins of Pinhead (won't give anything away here), but not as good as the first two. It does star Terry Farrell (Dax from DS9, though).
I have to say that I am EXTREMELY sceptical about 1 and 2 getting an uncut release over here. It MIGHT be possible with 1, but I have the uncut version of 2 from the USA and it is extremely intense.
If anyone can give me a link confirming these are completely uncut, then this will go straight to the top of my "Must have" list.

mmmmmmm.

Sorry for two comments in a row, but here is what it says on IMDB about Hellbound (number 2 in the series)

The following text contains spoilers. Click and drag over this box to view.

There are two alternate releases of "Hellbound" in addition to the standard R-rated U.S. theatrical/video release.

The unrated/uncut U.S. video and laserdisc releases and some European prints feature two new scenes showing Dr. Channard slicing a patient's hand off, and a hammer nailing in Pinhead's nails. In addition, some scenes are also more graphically explicit in this version, including Browning slashing himself with the razor; Tiffany experiencing her flashbacks; Dr. Channard becoming a Cenobite; and blood draining when Pinhead's throat is slashed.

Another uncut video version is reportedly available on a Japanese laserdisc edition and features an extra scene in hell where Kirsty finds herself in a normal-looking room she associates with her childhood; a framed photograph of her parents is displayed on a bureau. She admires the photo and looks yearningly at her mother. After taking a short look around the room, she finds that Julia has replaced her mother in the photo. Suddenly, it begins to ripple and a bevy of cockroaches burst forth from the frame. Roaches crawl forth from behind the bureau, toppling it, and she screams. This scene is inserted during the spinning shot of Kirsty screaming, but before the Cenobites appear. A subsequent shot of Kirsty running along a hellish path with Tiffany is also slightly extended.

There are also reports of an additional scene featuring Pinhead and the Female cenobite in surgery room outfits, but this is not included in any known version (see below). A glimpse of the scene, showing the Chatterer jumping out of an elevator, can be seen in one of the trailers.

The new special edition laserdisc from Lumivision features the restored "Kirsty's Room" sequence (also featured in the japanese disc) as well the additional graphic scenes that were cut to achieve an R rating. The total running time of this latest version is 99 minutes. The laserdisc also contains audio commentary from director Tony Randel and screenwriter Peter Atkins were they state that the infamous "surgery room" sequence turned out to be a disaster and therefore was never included in any version of the film, and will probably never see the light of day.

The new sell-through video version released in Australia by Paramount is the uncut version of the film, not the cut verison that was first released on Roadshow in the late 80's; the new Paramount tape also includes the "Kirsty's room" sequence.

It says this about Hellraiser cuts

The following text contains spoilers. Click and drag over this box to view.

An uncut version is available on video in the USA and features a few seconds of extended graphic footage in the scene where Julia kills one of her victims, who pleads for his life as she is about to hit him with the hammer.

The scene of the victim pleading for his life could only be found on subscription TV channels in the UK until the release of the British DVD version, which restores the missing shot of Julia's first victim pleading, but only on the widescreen version. The pan-and-scan version, on the other side of the disc, still has only one "please!".

Apparently, the original is still cut by five minutes in Sweden and Germany!

If anyone can confirm which of the above versions will be on this release, I would be very grateful.

The ABUK site has two versions listed now, one standard dvd set, one confirmed as a Lament Configuration box, with picture (admittedly, the picture might just be any old shot of the puzzle box, but still...) Also I see part III is getting a sperate release which should please those who have already bought the US editions of I and II.

Excellent stuff, particularly if these editions are as uncut as they say. With this and the Dawn of the Dead 4-disc box, September is looking to be an expensive (but oh-so-worth-it) month for horror fans.

From anchor bay:

HELLRAISER and HELLRAISER II will be the same as the uncut US Anchor Bay editions.

We used the original UK video rental edition (High Fliers) of HELLRAISER III for the audio commentary as we knew it was the most complete version. Director Tony Hickox was amazed that it was the full uncut version (he mentions the extra scenes on the commentary track, including the topless dance scene). The box states that it includes 'unseen footage'. It is this version we will release, but widescreen and anamorphic.

We've updated our previous article with news of a one-week delay for this impressive looking box set release from Anchor Bay UK, along with a minor specification update and new artwork for both versions of the set...

For those wondering, we know the release date listed here and on the AB UK site differs. The new date comes from the ABUK Press Release, and we're inclined to go with that as dates often slip...if it comes out on the 13th then you'll all be pleasantly surprised :)

Spec changes include subtitles and an extra featurette on Hellraiser 3.

This sounds like a really nice set. I've actually not seen any of the HELLRAISER films but have always liked the artwork and the sound of the concept, so I might pick this up when it comes out.

This is so typical. I just ordered Hellraiser and Hellbound from Amazon.com and now there's this! Just my luck ... I don't really care about the extras, as they seem to be quite similar, but I hope there isn't much difference video/audio-quality-wise ...

Maybe dvdtimes could do a comparison review ...:)

The only problem with ordering the Lament Configuration box from Play is their packaging. The box will probably be completely battered by the time it arrives. At least Amazon package their stuff in boxes.
I'm amazed by the number of posts by people who have never seen Hellraiser. It's a true horror classic, far superior to Nightmare on Elm Street etc.

Very nice looking box. I'm definately looking forward to this!
I do have minor concerns about shipping it from online stores though, so might risk a higher price point in favour of being able to pick a decent (non rattling one) from HMV.

That's a bit selfish... Distributors should have the opportunity to improve quality whenever possible instead of having to worry about the fact that people who bought previous versions might feel they've got a bum deal.

I hope AB have figured out a way of attaching the discs securely in that flimsy-looking box. When I got the Amicus collection all the discs were rattling around in the box and covered in scratches (AB did replace them all free of charge though).

if play can't delivery me one in mint condition it's going back, that simple. they need to realise that this is a collectors iten and people are going to be very picky about it. if i have to get it at full price off the high street i will, but there's no point play selling this if they can't keep them in good nick, if people didn't care about the packaging then they'd just buy the cheaper regular box set!

I can now see the them uncut ( Hooray). Will the picture quality be the same as the UK dvds? I would of liked to hear a commentary by Doug Bradley on the first 2 film but how come only on 3?
